RICHARD E. BOWMAN is an associate at Rose, Chinitz & Rose. Rich’s practice focuses on civil litigation and appellate practice, with an emphasis on employment and business litigation. Rich has represented clients in a variety of matters, including employment discrimination, wrongful termination, the enforcement of restrictive covenants, and non-payment of wage claims. Rich also has experience representing defendants in state and federal criminal matters.

A representative sample of Rich’s recent successes, includes:

  • obtaining the dismissal of a Chapter 93A claim against a construction company.
  • obtaining a contempt judgment, including an award of costs and attorneys’ fees, on behalf of a financial services provider against its former employee and his new employer.
  • obtaining summary judgment (upheld on appeal) for an employer on age and disability discrimination claims brought by its former employee.
  • obtaining numerous injunctions against former employees for violating their contractual and common law duties to their former employers.

Rich has also co-authored several Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education articles including, "Nonpayment of Wages in Massachusetts," Hot Employment Issues in the New Economy, 2001, and "Statistical Evidence in Federal Court Employment Litigation," Employment Law Conference, 2002; “Damages In Discrimination Cases: A Defense Perspective,” Employment Law Conference, 2004; “ Mental and Emotional Disabilities: An Employer Perspective” (2005 Update), Massachusetts Employment Law, 2005.

Rich graduated from the University of Massachusetts, summa cum laude, in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science. Rich received his Juris Doctor in 1999 from the Boston University School of Law where he was an Edward F. Hennessey Distinguished Scholar. Rich is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He is a member of the Boston, Massachusetts, and American Bar Associations. In 2005, 2006, and 2007, Rich was named a “Rising Star” in the field of employment litigation by the publication Massachusetts Super Lawyers.
